London-based energy and sustainability consultancy Advantage Utilities has today announced it has become a member of Solar Energy UK.

An established trade association, Solar Energy UK represents over 350 member companies operating in the UK energy sector and beyond, representing the entire solar and energy storage value chain.

Solar Energy UK aims to facilitate a five-fold increase in growth of UK solar capacity to 70GW of solar by 2035. Advantage Utilities have further aligned their values with Solar Energy UK, working collectively to expand current capacity to transition to a clean and resilient energy system for the UK.

Dr James Crosby-Wrigley, Head of Sustainability at Advantage Utilities, said, “We are looking forward to developing new opportunities with the team at Solar Energy UK.

“Being recognised as part of their organisation and working with their impartial expertise puts us in an excellent position to provide the best solutions for our clients and partners. More importantly, we are excited to continue advising and assisting commercial businesses to install solar panels to work towards a greener future for all.”

With net-zero by 2050 now a legal mandate, businesses have become acutely aware of the need to increase sustainability and many are exploring onsite energy generation as a result. Government figures indicate that the UK’s solar capacity increased by 6.7% in June 2023 YoY, the highest yearly increase since September 2017.

Energy prices are unlikely to fall to pre-pandemic levels for at least the next 3-4 years, meaning solar photovoltaic (PV) provides a cheaper, greener energy generation alternative for businesses with space availability, with solar PV having a typical lifetime cost of electricity of between 3p/kWh to 7p/kWh during its warranties period.
