Britain’s largest carmaker are to close two factories temporarily due to a global chip shortage and for a “limited period” Halewood and Castle Bromwich sites will close from Monday.
Ford and other carmakers have also been affected by the global shortage in computer chips which has also affected phone, TV and video games companies.
Due to the global pandemic there has been strong demand for computer chips as more people are working from home and there has been a surge in computer and other tech sales.
Renault, Vauxhall and Peugot have been affected and Daimler, General Motors and Volkswagen have all suspended production.
Tata-owned JLR said in a statement, “We have adjusted production schedules for certain vehicles which means that our Castle Bromwich and Halewood manufacturing plants will be operating a limited period of non-production from Monday, 26 April.
“We are working closely with affected suppliers to resolve the issues and minimise the impact on customer orders wherever possible.”
