Thousands of SMEs are now eligible for a 75% discount on the Cyber Essentials Certificate programme, which helps businesses safeguard their systems from cyber attacks and threats.
According to the government, over half (65%) of medium businesses and nearly half (46%) of small businesses experienced a cyber attack in the past 12 months.
These attacks can severely impact businesses, with recent estimates suggesting they could cost ยฃ195,000, leaving some small businesses forced to eat into vital cash reserves just to stay afloat or rebuild lost operations.
Joe Phelan, money.co.uk business banking expert, explains how this discount can help businesses protect their bottom line: โSmaller firms generally have fewer security controls, less staff training, and limited resourcing to spare on monitoring, which can make them easy targets. In some cases, cyber criminals will breach smaller businesses specifically as an entry point into wider supply chains and larger companies.
โFor growing businesses already juggling rising operational costs, an unexpected cyber attack or prolonged system outage can quickly drain cash reserves. This discount gives founders an affordable, proactive way to protect their cash flow against growing cybersecurity threats.โ
