A London based army veteran has pledged to donate a percentage of the annual profits from his new dog walking app to UK armed forces and military veterans’ charity, Help forHeroes, in a bid to ‘give back’ for the support received when struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder [PTSD].
Officially launched in June 2021, GoWalkies is a dedicated smartphone app that has been created to connect dog walkers with dog owners – providing the opportunity forwalkers to grow their business, whilst giving owners complete peace of mind over the care of their four-legged friends.
Founded by veteran, Sonny D’Avola, in early 2021 after spending nearly 10 years serving in the army, GoWalkies enables dog walkers to keep 100% on their earnings, whilst providing owners with carefully vetted and insured ‘on-demand’ walkers, who can share their walk location and imagery in real-time via in-app tracking features.
In forming a new partnership with Help for Heroes, Sonny and the GoWalkies team will now donate part of its annual profits to the charity, whilst encouraging Veterans to consider creating their own dog walking business as an alternative career opportunity.
Sonny explained: “Help for Heroes is an incredible charity and one that is very close to my heart, having received support for PTSD after leaving the army in 2012. Therefore, not only did I want to form a new partnership with the charity to ensure I could give back, but I also wanted to engage veterans who have left the army and are thinking about new career opportunities that can help improve their mental health, such as dog walking.”

Officially launched on 2 June 2021, GoWalkies is free to download via Google Play and the Apple App store.
Self-funded, the app is forecast to have thousands of registered dog walkers across the UK by the close of 2021.
